7/27/11

Overheard:
Kaylee : "My puffballs habitat is long, Kara's puffball's habitat is deep and Andrew's puffball's habitat is the smallest"
Andrew: "No, My puffball's habitat has two compartments."
I'm not sure why I found it so funny. Maybe because of the repeated use of the word "habitat". Maybe because a 5 yr old used the word "compartments". Either way, I laughed. P.S. a puff ball is a little pom pom with googly eyes and feet.

Anna is at the age where she repeats everything she hears. Everything.  Kara mentioned diarrhea, Anna sang "diarrhea, diarrhea, diarrhea... for like 5 minutes. The other day she kept saying "do not lie to me!". I wonder where she heard that.

Andrew is becoming such a good reader! Every time I read with him I'm surprised at the words he can figure out. He can't wait for school to start. T minus 31 days and counting! (Kindergarten starts a week later than everyone else)

PROGRESS!! Kaylee's room is so close to done! Wes did texture the other day, and he's getting doors tomorrow. Then trim, paint and carpet. WOO HOO!

Quotable Quotes

"It's cleaner than a hotdog with no ketchup or mustard or miracle whip" -Andrew

Anna woke up this morning and the first thing she said was "Crocodile hurt me". Poor girl.

Catch Up

Now that I have batteries in my camera again I can show you some fun stuff. A couple weeks ago I took my camera to one of the kids games, only there were no batteries in it. Kara wore out the batteries in her camera in one day so I told her she couldn't have any more for a while. So she took mine. I wasn't worried about it until I caught her recording a TV show. Then I took my batteries right back! So here's what you missed.

Last day of school...

Anna likes to empty the dishwasher...

Still no game pics. Maybe tonight. Hopefully it won't rain. Last night we went to Kara's game and as we pulled up it started to rain. It rained just until we got to the feild and sat down. Then it stopped. Andrew has games every Thursday at 5. Kara's are two night a week -Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday at 7:15. So some days we have two games to go to. Good thing Kaylee decided not to play. Can you imagine three games in one day, 5-6 games a week?!

The kids are doing the summer reading program at the library. It's fun and a good way to encourage reading. But! The prizez stink this year. Last year they gave away coupons for free kids meals and OWLS tickets, etc. This year they've gotten a sucker and a plastic snake. They aren't complaining though.

Yesterday we (Wes and I) finished pouring our concrete patio and sidewalk. I think we did about 5  1/2 yards of concrete. It took 6 hours, 6 gatorades, one babysitter ( thanks Mom), sunscreen, sore knees, and backs, and arms, and hands... but now it's done and I'm so excited to have a place to sit in the back that isn't dirt. Plus we've tripled the kids bike riding area.

While I wait for the super slow video to upload I had to change Annas diaper. I went to take it to the garbage outside but instead walked to the mailbox, opened it, and realized- Um, wrong place! Pretty sure we might never get mail again if the mail lady were to open the mailbox and find a stinky diaper. HAHA!

Yup, still waiting. So ...Here's what I love about my kids.

Kaylee- While waiting in line at the grocery store she goes over to look at the science magazine.
Kara- Doesn't just walk, she bounces. Watch next time you see her- it's super cute.
Andrew- Such a BOY! He could spend all day just digging in the dirt or working with Dad.
Anna- Really, what's not to love? She's just so cute! And funny! I don't even know how many times a day I laugh at her(not in a bad, mean way).
All of them- They are really just so smart and curious and not afraid to be nerdy (thanks Dad and Danny and David for being nerdy examples. We had to have a talk with Kaylee about this because she came home upset that someone had called her a nerd. So I told her it's ok to be a nerd. Look at Grandpa, David and Danny. All nerds!). They don't just play outside, they scour the backyard and beyond for plant "specimens" to put in their "laboratory".

Oh, Andrew's latest funny- "It's taller than a donkey in a top hat!" or "It's hotter than a donkey on fire" or whatever he comes up with. Hee- larious.

Try Something New Tuesday

So for a while we were stuck in a rut. A great big dinner-time rut. So I decided that every other Tuesday would be Try Something New Tuesday. I search the web and read my favorite blogs looking for new things to try. Sadly, most things I want to try are desserts, but I have found quite a few new recipes that we ( or some of us) like. We've also had a couple of major flops. Like Shrimp Scampi with Linguini- Big. Fat. FLOP! But tonight we hit the JACKPOT! Grilled Teryaki Chicken with rice and grilled pineapple. De-Licious! It was like a party in my mouth, as Kaylee says. Definately a keeper!

Random Tidbits from My Life

  • Tomorrow is the last day of school. I'm actually excited about this.
  • I need a bigger fridge. I went grocery shopping yesterday and it barely fit...see?
  • One of my little "darlings" got a little crazy with the spray sunscreen on Saturday. It was all over the wood floor, a big spot on the table (that removed the finish and left a permanent mark), the ottoman, and the carpet. I spent a good two hours scrubbing the floor with dishsoap. It did finally come off. I read on the internet to put baking soda on the furniture and carpet and let it soak up the suncreen, then vacuum. So, hpoefully we won't have a big brown spot on the carpet where the sunscreen collects dirt. The ottoman looks ok but the table is ruined. Needless to say, our home wasn't a very pleasant place Saturday night. I won't name any names but HE's still in the doghouse.
  • Andrew is in swimming lessons and is doing great and loving it. It's from a lady at her house. She's been teaching for 35 years and it's obvious she knows what she's doing. They've covered more in two lessons than Kaylee got in two weeks from a teenager at Lehi pool. Kaylee and Kara start next week.
  • Andrew is playing T-ball and Kara softball. Starting next week we will have two or three games a week. They do it weekday evenings here so Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday are pretty busy. Let's just hope it doesn't keep raining. Andrew already had one rainout.
  • IT"S SUNNY OUTSIDE!!! I saw on the news last night that Alpine has gotten more than 4 inches of rain this month. That's 200% of normal! And it's supposed to rain again this weekend. Yikes!
  • Speaking of rain this weekend, Wes was hoping to pour our concrete patio this weekend. Hopefully the weather cooperates.
  • The basement is coming along. It's all drywalled and Wes is working on tape and mud in Kaylee's room. We're focusing on the girls rooms first. Hopefully we'll get them down there soon!
  • I think this has been the longest post I've ever written.
