Now That You've Seen It...

I think I'm leaning more toward this table:
I'm afraid that it will be too dark with the dark floor and the dark cabinets and the dark carpet and the dark couches. I think this table will add enough light to make it balance better. It's kind of hard to judge without the counters though. This is what our granite looks like.
So now that you've seen the house, what do you think?

Floor Fiasco

So we decided to just keep the floor. But, since they made the mistake they are upgrading our lighting package and giving us a gift card to wherever we want. Really, the floor wasn't too bad because it was the same color/species as we wanted it just wasn't smooth like we wanted. Not too big of a deal. They were willing to rip it out and do it again if that's what we wanted. So today they finished the tile in the master shower, worked on the front porch posts, did gutters, and intalled garage door openers. Oh, and they did some rough work on landscaping.

May 25

The outside is almost done. They just need to put in the posts on the front porch. And fix the back doors. They painted them a hideous brown/red color. They should be gray. I'm getting pretty frustrated with all the things they are doing wrong. They put in the wrong light fixtures too.
In this picture you can see the floor. It's covered and pretty dirty but there it is. We may end up keeping the wrong floor in exchange for upgrades elsewhere. At least it's the right color. So inside they need to change the light fixtures (and install the pendants) finish baseboards, carpet, and the master shower, install cabinets and finish plumbing, appliances, window blinds and touch up paint. SOON!

Global Warming?

and other randomness...

Yeah, it snowed today. Not just a few flakes- the grass was covered.  It's May 24th people!

Kara's dream car:

Check out those rims!

What's Wrong With the Floor

It's handscraped. We told them we didn't want handscraped. Yestereday they told us they would probably rip it out on Mondy- which, of course puts us behind schedule. They were supposed to install appliances Monday.

The House Today

They finished most of the oustide today. Just the front posts and lights to go- and landscaping of course. They will put in grass, 10 shrubs and 2 trees. They also put in the wood floor. Unfortunately, it's not the right floor.

Our House

So the stucco looked gray in the design center. It still looks good but not what I expected. In the last two days they did soffit and fascia, put on garage doors, siding and are done with stucco and almost done with the stone. They delivered light fixtures and painted the inside.

You Look Cute!

So, being the slacker mom that I am, I haven't bought sandles for the kids yet. Well, today we needed to go out and Andrew's shoes were wet because he played in the sandbox with water yesterday so I told him to put on Kara's old flip flops. Yes, girl shoes! They are green so it wasnt' too bad. He asked "Are these girl shoes". I asked "Do they look like girl shoes?" "Yes"  "Ok, they are but it's ok".  Then I left the room only to hear him ask Kara "Do I look funny?" To which she replied "No, you look cute!" Probably the worst thing she could have said.

House

They did more stucco and stone work today.

Daredevil

This is Anna's new game- only she likes to do it in the kitchen. That way if she falls she crackes her head open.

PAINT!! They did the first coat of paint.

Monday, May 17, 2010

The House

The last few days they have been working on the stone. They have also finished the texture on the walls and are now working on finish carpentry.

Things That Made Me Smile

  • While we were driving today Andrew said "Mommy, accelerate!"
  • Anna's piggies
  • Saturday Wes was mowing the lawn and Andrew was following behind with his toy mower
  • Someone stuffed Anna's pants full of toys
  • Kaylee practiced piano this morning without being asked
  • Anna's wobbly walk- she's decided that walking is ok after all

Elementary School Jokes

Do you remember when we thought we were so funny? Somehow all those old jokes get passed down.
"What are you eating under there?"

"Under where?"

"You eat underwear?!"

or
"What's that on your shirt?"

"What, where?"

"Made you look!"

Kaylee made that last on up at school today. So clever and original!

Stucco

This is the first coat of stucco! They are still working on tape and mud inside on the drywall and are almost done with the roof.

Day I Don't Know

I lost track of the days. All I know is the house is coming along nicely. We've had a few issues and things that need to be changed or fixed but I guess that's normal. It's hard to believe that we could move in in just about a month. Here are the latest pictures (as of Monday):

Kitchen Table Dilemma

Ok, I need some help here! I want a new dining set to go in our new house but I can't find the perfect one for the perfect price. I really like this one and the price ($699 for the set) but I wish it extended bigger. Plus, Wes doesn't really like it.
p.s. the floor is dark wood, the walls are brown with white trim.
So I kept looking and found this one at Ikea

It extends to seat 10. The problem is that the chairs don't match. The table is dark brown and the chairs are black. Or they have white chairs.

Or I could get it with these chairs, which I don't love but they are the same color.

What should I do? Does it look bad with white chairs?

Happy Mother's Day To Me!

The lease is up on our pilot next month so I've been debating what kind of car I should get. We knew we wanted to lease again and we knew how much we wanted to pay. We also knew we needed something that seats at least 6 conmfortably and wasn't a mini van. 4WD or AWD also on the list. I looked at a Mazda CX9- not nearly enough 3rd row space. They should have a sign saying "Must be under 5' tall to ride". Moved on to the Nissan Pathfinder- I liked the staduim seating. The back row was higher so kids could see over. But when I sat in the 3rd row I couldn't put the 2nd row seat back- too small. The Chevy Traverse had no lease deals so we skipped it. Now, the GMC Acadia. I really liked the look of this car, it was by far my favorite. It rides nice and quiet, there's plenty of room in the 3rd row, plenty of space behind the 3rd row. Unfortunately the 2nd row seat flips up. I know, you're thinking "so what?" The problem is that I would have to remove the booster seat before sliding the seat to allow access to the 3rd row. Pain! Yes, the Acadia is roomy, but if you have more than 2 kids in booster or car seats it just isn't practical. You can't put three seats across the 2nd row and you can't easily access the 3rd row with two seats in the 2nd. You could put two in the back but then you'd have to climb all the way in the car to buckle the one on the driver's side. Also a pain. So maybe when our kids are older we'll get an Acadia. So now that you've read my entire thought process you finally get to hear the news:

We got a new Pilot!

I love it! They fixed all the little things that bugged me before, like having to remove and stow headrests when I put the 3rd row down to load groceries. We also got a screamin' deal. I guess it pays to be hesitant. Not only did they lower our monthly payments by $40 a month, they are replacing the front tires and fixing the dent in the old pilot for free so we don't have to pay for it when we turn it in. So now we have a new car and we've already paid for the other one until June 7th. I'm not sure what we'll do with an extra car for a month. Oh well!

Day 15

No pictures today- they did insulation and put tar paper on the roof.

Day 14 part 2

Yesterday they poured the driveway, front porch, and walk;  installed some windows,
rough electrical,
and the furnace.

Day 14

Holy beehive of activity! I just did my after kindergarten drive-by and there are so many people there! They are pouring the driveway and front walk and the heating/cooling guys are there working too. It's really unbelievable how fast this is going. There is a house down the street they started on two months ago and they are still framing( of course, I've only ever seen two guys there puttering around).

The Build - Day 13

So they finished framing (except the coffered ceilings) and moved on to rough plumbing. Which looks mostly done. Hopefully they'll get the roof done before the next storm.

Day 12

This wasn't all in one day. Apparently they worked yesterday too. Another reason they get things done so fast- they had at least 10 guys working until 7pm.

Day 11

Snowy. Snowy. Snowy. I even had to clean snow off my car. Yuck
